HOW TO GET PAINT OFF YOUR DOG...

How to get paint off my dog?
You're probably thinking, why would I ever need to know this piece of information?

Trust me, you may well need it someday..

I came home this evening, exhausted after a really long meeting with the Board of Director's at my client's office, to find my helper shrieking at Rascal in dismay... He had gotten really excited when he heard my car arriving and proceeded to prance up and down the fence like he normally does. The only problem was that there was a pan of paint there!!!

And so he splashed dark brown paint all over the underside of his body and got 2 paws completely soaked in paint as well. And of course, he then left paw prints all over the patio!

I think Charrisa thought I would get really mad at her for letting this happen. I actually found it quite hilarious when I saw Rascal looking as brown as he was.. But my amusement quickly turned to worry when I realised to severity of the situation.

Anyway, in the unlikely event that your dog decides to help you with painting, keep calm and try to get the paint off as quickly as possible. It will be harder to get it off once it has dried. Bear in mind that some dogs may have a bad reaction as well, especially if they start licking their fur, so it is quite important to get it off as quickly as possible.

Get a bowl of vegetable oil or cooking oil, and lots of paper napkins. Soak the paper napkins in the oil and start rubbing out the paint. Try to rub out as much paint as possible. Then give your dog a good warm bath with some mild soap or shampoo. If it's bad, you may have to repeat the process a few times... And if you have a dog with a long coat, you may have to consider shaving off his fur... And if necessary you may need to take your dog to the vet.

But whatever you do, don't use thinner or kerosene on your dog... You could hurt your dog that way. Just thought I'd share this handy tip with you guys...

PS: I know Rascal doesn't look like he had that much paint on him, but I only thought to take the picture after I had gotten a fair bit off!

PPS: You can also get paint off your skin using vegetable oil if it hasn't fully dried.

IT'S A BIRD! IT'S A PLANE... IT'S SUPERDOG!!!

My poor old Rascal has been feeling cold recently as it has been raining alot... and as we have alot of trees and plants in our garden, it really is quite cold in our house...

I usually wrap him up in his Thundershirt when it rains not because he gets frightened, but to keep him warm as he has a very very thin coat of fur. But it was extra cold yesterday, and he was actually shivering so much that I had to wrap him up in his blanket as well!

So I decided to order him a proper dog coat from Chilly Dogs, and can't wait till it arrives...

Will post a picture of Rascal in his coat as soon as we get it. Hopefully it will help keep him warmer on rainy days...

AUSTRALIAN LAMB SHOULDER!

Today I happened to be in Giant and so decided to take a look in their frozen meat section and I found this. Apparently it's Australian Lamb Shoulder and it was only RM17/kg. So I bought some for the kids to try.. Hopefully they will like it...

My only gripe is that it's sliced... so not a big hunk like what they're used to these days. But I will be feeding it in large frozen chunks so it should be fine. Will let all of you know how it goes! If they like it, then lamb can be a regular feature in their meals!

You see the kids love lamb! But as I usually buy New Zealand lamb which is rather expensive, they don't get it as often as they would like.

A couple of weeks ago, I got 2 huge leg of lambs to be shared between the 4 of them. It cost me RM40+/kg! But it was enough to last them for 2.5 days... So that was alright as a treat...

FATBOY FOR THE KIDS

Rascal chilling on his fatboy

Rascal is a pretty good boy as far as dogs go... He doesn't give me much trouble except for occasional naughtiness when out on his walks... But he does have one serious problem - he loves to destroy his beds!

We have gone through so many beds ever since he walked into our lives 6 years ago. He has chewed up everything that we have put down as bedding for him. He has destroyed cardboard boxes, cheap rugs from Ikea, expensive rugs, human comforters with covers, a really nice doggie bed I brought back from London, several rather expensive doggie type beds from petstores...and the list goes on...

You might say that I should just give up on beds for him, but you see he's quite thin and he needs a nice bed to lie on so that he has some sort of cushioning. I would imagine that it would be quite painful also to sleep in his crate without any bedding of sorts. And also because he's quite thin, I worry that he'd get cold on raining nights (although he always has his Thundershirt on when it rains).

Anyway I have been on the lookout for a tough and durable bed for him, and recently I have noticed loads of bean bags that are on sale at our malls. Most of these bags have pretty tough fabric, but so far I have not come across any that were actually made for dogs in KL. Until today that is...

I was meandering in Pavillion while waiting for some stuff to be fixed, and happened to walk into this store called molecule on the 6th floor. I saw some bean bags there and then saw that they were actually fatboy beanbags and they had the doggie version of their beanbags as well.

Cleo - trying out her fatboy

So you're thinking, what's the big deal with getting a doggie version? Well the first thing is that doggie version from fatboy is washable (with warm, soapy water) while most human versions from other brands are not (you can only wipe them clean). This I think is pretty important for most dog owners...

And secondly, as I have been looking at quite a few bean bags including the ones from doof (which are much much cheaper), I felt that the human ones are alot more chewable. The reason being that there are less beans (which allows you to turn it into many different shapes etc) and therefore gives the dogs more areas to chew on, and there are also edges that are very easily chewable...(see pictures above).

However, if your dog is not a chewaholic - then I think you should consider getting a normal human bean bag as they really are much cheaper.

In the mean time, I will keep all of you updated as to how the bean bags are faring...Cleo and Lucky are usually quite good with their beds and so I think they will not destroy them. Hopefully, Rascal will not chew and destroy his bean bag... if he does, then I seriously won't know what to get him next...I might just have to leave him with no bed... :(

RASCAL - POST BREAKFAST SNOOZE!

I love feeding the kids BFFLO (Big Food Fed Less Often) cause they are really so content afterwards. All of them have a long snooze after their meal which is great for me cause it means that I can get some work done as they aren't demanding my attention every minute!

GOOFY RASCAL

Of my 4 doggie kids, Rascal is the most serious dog. He's always prim and proper, and is also a bit of a grouch! So I just had to post this picture where he was goofing around with his new toy... This is really unusual for Rascal.

WALKING IN THE RAIN

It was drizzling a little this morning, and so I got into my rain coat and wellies, and then strapped Belle and Rascal into their Hurtta rain coats. Just as we were about to go out, the rain came chucking down, and there was no way we could have gone out!

Belle was completely unimpressed that we were not going out and proceeded to sulk! She was so cute!

Anyway, when the rain lightened up, I took them out and they had a grand time stomping in all the puddles! They would have gotten absolutely filthy if they didn't have their rain coats on though...

Managed to take a couple of pictures later on in the walk when the rain was just a very light drizzle! Don't they look so cool!
