THE MISADVENTURES OF RASCAL & MISHKA

Rascal and Mishka, my two ex-stray kids, have had a rough week...

On Tuesday, my contractors finally came to fix take my glass door away to be fixed - the one that Cleo broke...

Rascal was quite aggressive towards them... I was a bit surprised cause he's a really sweet dog to me.

I had to let him out so that the contractors could work as I was unable to tie him up as I have yet to be able to get a collar on him. I don't like letting him out for many reasons, mainly the fact that it is not safe to let your dog out on its own. But I had no choice.

On Thursday, the contractors came back with my glass door, and I decided that I would tie Rascal up with a make shift choke collar from a leash - you know where you loop the leash through the handle.

That was really traumatising for him cause he has never been leashed before and he went into a mad frenzy out of fright from having something round his neck. I can only assume that he has been noosed by dog catchers before. He was really terrified... I had to take the leash off as quickly as I could.

Then on Friday, I had to take Mishka to the vet cause his tummy has not been good... He was not happy to be in the Pet Voyager at all! And mewed his lungs out all the way to the vet. And of course my vet prescribed some medication for his tum tum, which meant that I had to force it down his throat twice a day. Dr Jon also said that Mishka was to be confined to his cage 24/7 until his tummy got better... that didn't go down well with Mishka at all...

But worst of all was Rascal's nasty encounter yesterday... As I was trying to get out of the house, Rascal slipped past me and before I knew it he was attacked by 3 other dogs! I had no idea where they came from but they were all larger than Rascal and they were vicious. They pinned Rascal down and was attacking him with all they had.

I ran back into the house and turned the garden hose on them. They broke up and Rascal ran towards me but they charged at him again... I aimed the hose at them and managed to keep them at bay while Rascal ran back in... That was a really nasty episode... Poor Rascal sustained minor injuries but I think the shock of being attacked in his own teritory by unknown dogs was a bit too much for him...

I quickly gave him some Anxocare from Himalaya to calm him down... and proceeded to look him over... saw some minor grazes and applied some antiseptic cream...

I am always really careful when going in and out and I have never let a dog out by accident. But this goes to show that accidents can happen to the most careful of people...

Please do not let your dogs out on their own cause you never know what could happen to them. This nasty incident happened right in front of my gate. Luckily I was around and managed to put a stop to it before Rascal got seriously injured.

I hope that everyone will take extra pre-caution to ensure the safety of their pets. This incident shows that even a street-wise ex stray like Rascal can get hurt, what more our normal domesticaed pooches!!!

Oh my, poor Rascal! Did he fight back? I think we would be so traumatized too if we got attacked. Chloe will be the most traumatized but me, at least I can fight back but against three dogs, no way! I'd be DEAD! My mommy wouldn't use a garden hose becoz sometimes it doesn't work. She would rather kick & whack them with a leash becoz these dogs are quite afraid of hoomans & things being thrown or swung at them. I hope his injuries were not that bad... You must have so many doggies now in your house plus those other two Labradors. How are they doing by the way? Hope Mishka's tummy is ok today.

Amber,

Rascal did fight back - but the three of them were much bigger and stronger than him...

the water did the trick... I wouldn't advise your mommy to go and fight the dogs herself...

Sometimes strays can be very vicious because of how they have been treated by humans in general, and they may maul if provoked further

Use a strong jet of water to break up the fight or throw an empty can to make a loud noise...

Also my Mommy has learnt never break up a dog fight by going into the fight - remember she was bittens severely by Husky boy a few months ago???
