DARK TIMES AHEAD FOR MALAYSIA

Poster courtesy of Mob's Crib

I don't know what to say. I don't know what to think. And I certainly don't know what to feel...

What has this country become? Over the past few days, many people have been arrested - including a friend of mine N Surendran - merely for voicing their opinions... Suren was arrested for participating in a Human Rights march on Sunday 9th Dec.

N Surendran is a lawyer, Human Rights Activist and an Animal Rights activist. See this video for one of Suren's causes . (Suren is the guy with the glasses).

I thought we had free speech in this country? Obviously not...

The police have also made a number of these arrests without court orders and without reading the detainees their rights... So what does this mean? That those arrested had no rights?

See

Today, 5 HINDRAF leaders were arrested under ISA. See The Star for details. The Prime Minister has stated that they will be detained for 2 years!!! Is this right?

See comments from Lim Kit Siang and Karpal Singh on the arrests under ISA

Under Section 73 (1) of the ISA, the police can detain any individual for up to 60 days without a warrant, trial and without access to legal counsel if he was suspected to have “acted or is about to act or is likely to act in any manner prejudicial to the security of Malaysia or any part thereof or to maintenance of essential services therein or to the economic life thereof."

After 60 days, the Minister of Home Affairs can extend the period of detention without trial for up to two years, without submitting any evidence for review by the courts, by issuing a detention order, which is renewable indefinitely.

Isn't this a fundamental violation of Human Rights? And Malaysia dares call herself a free and democratic country???

There has been much written about all the goings on in this country...

I can't write anymore cause my brains are just not functioning - I am too stressed with all that is happening in this country that I call home...
