DEMOCRACY - MALAYSIAN STYLE...

My recent encounter with the Selayang Local Government was quite an eye opener. For those of you who have been reading about the horrors that were happening in Selayang, you would know what I am talking about. For those who haven't a clue, please take a look at some of my older posts...

However, nothing could prepare me for the outrageous events that unfolded yesterday. But what was even more unacceptable was the fact that our main stream local media painted a very different picture of what really happened.

A peaceful rally, called the BERSIH rally, was organised by a number of NGOs and some Opposition parties. They wanted to submit a memorandum to the King, calling for Electoral reforms. The rally turned ugly when police took harsh actions against hundreds of rally participants - this included firing tear gas and apparently chemically laced water too. I am unable to provide a personal account of the events as I was not personally there. I leave it to you to decide on the objectivity of the reporting.

Here are some interesting links:

Al-Jazeera also interviewed the Minister of Information who defended police action against the BERSIH rally goers... This video is a must watch... makes you question the comptenecy of this country's leaders. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfpYZ4IGenY
