COME SHOW YOUR SUPPORT!!!

Dear all,

The dog catching competition issue is beginning to look like the Selayang Council’s way of passing the problem of the stray dog population in their area to the animal welfare organizations. The MB of Selangor has conveniently stated, and I quote: “Competitions like this are good, as the animals are not killed but caught and handed over to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).

Bear in mind that there were no discussions held with the SPCA or any other animal welfare organizations prior to the Council launching this barbaric competition. They have also refused to back down although animal lovers have led a peaceful protest last Sunday. Animal welfare groups together with a coalition of animal lovers have also handed over a Memorandum and 2160 petition signatures to the Council on Sept 11. We were all however deeply disappointed as none of the relevant officials would come to meet us to accept the documents.

I am pleading to all of you to please come and support us on Friday, 14th Sept 2007 at the Majlis Perbandaran Selayang at 9.00am. The council has agreed to meet us (although that remains to be seen) and we need all the support we can get. It is important to note that this issue is not merely about cruelty to animals, but it is an issue that affects our humanity and morality. Click here to see why it is imperative that we stop this game at once.

Date: Friday, 14th September 2007
Time: 9.00 AM
Venue: Majlis Perbandaran Selayang

Supporters are reminded to keep calm at all times and not to retaliate towards any party that may try to instigate a fight. We must not show any violence or disrespect in order to maintain our status as peace loving animal rights defenders.

Thank you for your time and attention.

Dear Natasha (and Cleo),
I'm overseas at the moment but please keep me informed of upcoming protests (why haven't I seen this on the other animal rights websites?). I will join the very next one if this sick competition continues. You have my full support!

Hi Lisa,

thanks for your support... Hope to meet you soon.

There is some publicity in some international press, but animal rights orgs have not quite taken it up, although PETA has written a pretty good letter to MalaysiaKini.

Sigh... we hope this will end soon
